The pile is cast in situ by a method comprising the following steps: (a) carrying out a soil survey in the intended pile casting location in order to determine the types of soil layers present; (b) choosing a suitable binder for mixing with the soil in each layer and determining the amount of binder needed to achieve a desired level of support in the soil layer; and (c) adding the chosen binder in the pre-determined amount to the soil under pressure and mixing with the soil. The binder is chosen from one or more of lime, cement, fly ash or lava and is blown into the soil using compressed air. An independent claim is also included for the casting apparatus, comprising a drilling and mixing device (4) with a height adjustable upright hollow drill rod (24) containing an inlet (27) connected to a programmable dosing device (2) for supplying binder from one or more silos (3), each one containing a different binder. The drill rod contains at least one exit in its tip (28). |
