A magnetic recording medium comprising a substrate, a lower electrode layer formed on the substrate, an anodic oxidation alumina film (13) formed on the lower electrode layer, a carbon layer (15) formed on the upper surface of the anodic oxidation alumina film (13) and the inner wall of a thin hole (14), magnetic particles (16) formed internally through the carbon layer (15) of the thin hole (14), and a lubricating layer formed on the surface of the carbon layer (15) and the magnetic particles (16). Since the surface of the anodic oxidation alumina film (13) and the inner wall of the thin hole (14) are covered with the carbon layer (15), the anodic oxidation alumina film (13) is protected resulting in a magnetic recording medium exhibiting excellent corrosion resistance and durability.
