PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optical diffraction structure by which reduction in cost and labor saving are achieved in the production process, and to provide a method for copying a hologram in the production method. SOLUTION: The method for producing an optical diffraction structure comprises a copying step in which a hologram original 10 provided with interference fringes producing a hologram image 30 and a meltable layer 24 superposed on the hologram original 10 are irradiated with an energy line L in such a way that the scope W2 of irradiation is restricted, the meltable layer 24 in the scope W2 of irradiation is melted by the heat of the energy line L, and the interference fringes are sequentially transferred onto the meltable layer 24 by moving the scope W2 of irradiation in such a way as to trace the interference fringes; and a patterning step in which a diffraction grating 32 is superposed on the meltable layer 24 and irradiated with an energy line L in the same way as in the copying step, and by the heat of the energy line L, the diffraction grating is sequentially transferred to pattern the top of the meltable layer in the prescribed shape.
