PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reclining device of a chair having a spring force adjusting mechanism which has a structure stepwisely adjusting a spring force supporting a backrest by a changeover operation of a lever, facilitating adjustment work and allowing a user to visually confirm the adjustment position. SOLUTION: The reclining device of the chair 1 is characterized in that a spring mechanism part of the spring force adjusting mechanism 4C is provided in parallel to a fluid pressure spring means 20 of an angle adjusting mechanism 4B of the backrest 7, the spring mechanism part is pulled by a changeover arm 33 by operating an operation lever 10 for adjusting the spring force, the changeover arm 33 is locked at a set position providing an intended spring force and the spring force is adjustingly changed over in a plurality of steps.
