The internal combustion engine has several cylinders and at least one turbocharger and at least one exhaust manifold (13) that carries exhaust gases from two or more cylinders to the turbocharger. The exhaust manifold has a region (15) that is cooled by a cooling device and a region (14) that is essentially uncooled. The cooled region is at the end of the manifold upstream of the turbocharger.
