METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DETECTING TOXIC COMPONENTS IN AN ENVIRONMENT

The present invention relates to a method and device for detecting toxic components of tobacco smoke in an environment. Toxic component data are sampled which are then mapped with a predefined set of data, for example known accepted scientific data for tobacco levels in an environment. The mapped data is then translated into a novel graphical display on a screen in the portable sensing device, which can be wearable, displaying translated data of tobacco levels in an environment over a period of time. The device, for example in the form of a PDA or a wrist watch, is intended to be used by an ordinary non-scientific person to inform that person of the level of toxicity at any given time in the environment they are subjected to, simply and effectively. The invention further relates to a method of utilising detected data to provide a statistical analysis of the long-term health consequences for a person who is continually subjected to a particular environment.
