HOLLOW CONNECTION SHAFT FOR CONSTANT VELOCITY UNIVERSAL JOINT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a connection shaft having higher rigidity, lighter weight and lower manufacturing cost.

SOLUTION: The hollow connection shaft 5 comprises a shaft end portion 5a having a tooth profile 5c to be connected to a fitting portion 2c of an inside joint member 2 and an intermediate portion 5b ranging from the shaft end portion 5a. The connection shaft 5 is obtained by drawing a pipe raw material having an outer diameter dm at both ends and further forming the tooth profile 5c on the shaft end side outer periphery of the drawn shaft end portion 5a with roll machining. A ratio r4 (=dm/PCDSERR) of the outer diameter dm of the intermediate portion 5b to a pitch circle diameter PCDSERRof the tooth profile 5c of the shaft end portion 5a is 1≤r4≤3.5.
