PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an artificial oxygen carrier containing a conjugate of a porphyrin-structure-containing metal complex and alubmin in an oxygen-free (nitrogen or another inert gas) atmosphere by a production method using no carbon monoxide. SOLUTION: The method for producing a complex of a porphyrin-structure-containing deoxy metal complex and alubmin comprises mixing the porphyrin-structure-containing metal complex with alubmin in an atmosphere of a gas substantially free from carbon monoxide and oxygen.
