PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an intermediate shaft having an expanding/contracting shaft decreasing rattling sound and sliding resistance at the time of use, and saving costs. SOLUTION: Since constant velocity universal joints are used at both ends of the intermediate shaft 3, the phases in a circumferential direction of a male spline 311 and a female spline 321 are limited at one point, in contrast to an intermediate shaft having a conventional cross shaft universal joint. Therefore, the male spline 311 and the female spline 321 are fitted with each other by changing the phases in the circumferential direction. The phase in the circumferential direction having the minimum fitting clearance can be extremely easily found, so that the time required for selective fitting is shortened, and the intermediate shaft device saving costs can be manufactured.
