In one aspect of the present invention, a drill press (10) includes a feed assembly (30) that can be switched from one side of the drill press (10) to the other, allowing either right-hand or left-hand operation. The drill press (10) includes a drill housing (20) with a generally vertically extending spindle (22) rotatably mounted in the housing. A motor is operably connected to the spindle (22) to drive the spindle (22), and a shaft (36) extends through the drill housing (20) generally transversely to the spindle (22). A hub assembly (34) is interchangeably connected to one of the ends of the shaft (36), and a spring housing (50) is interchangeably connected to the other end of the shaft (36). The spring housing (50) has a first side that is situated adjacent the drill housing (20) if the spring housing (50) is received by one end of the shaft (36), and a second side that is situated adjacent the drill housing (20) if the spring housing (50) is received by the other end of the shaft (36). A torsion spring (56) is contained within the spring housing (50). |
