The automotive adaptive cruise control system has a sensor (12) e.g. radar unit and an acceleration/deceleration regulator (20) that operates in conformity with a predefined longitudinal guidance (fast/slow) strategy (28, 30, 32). The cruise control system further incorporates a strategy module that identifies and replicates driver habits through the guidance strategy module.
