<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commutator motor that reduces the occurrence of nasty smell after the occurrence of an excessive spark between a commutator and a brush, the emission of smoke, and firing, and that improves reliability. <P>SOLUTION: This commutator motor is provided with a stator, an armature, a commutator that is coupled to the armature, a brush that feeds electric power to the commutator, a brush sleeve into which the brush is inserted, a holder that holds the brush sleeve, and a detecting element that detects an excessive spark that occurs to the rectification end side of a brush tip.
