PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reading desk capable of easily holding pages of a book, turning over the page of the book with a simple structure, which is inexpensive and has excellent operability. SOLUTION: The reading desk is provided with a book placing desk, a top side crosspiece provided on a top side of the desk, a bottom side crosspiece provided at a specified height near a bottom side end part and a pair of ring elastic string members hung in a vertical direction over the top side crosspiece and the bottom side crosspiece on right and left of both the pieces. When right and left of both end parts of the opened book are inserted into the spaces between and hung in parallel in a vertical direction so as to be held between the string members, the bottom sides of the string members suspends the bottom of the book and the upper sides thereof hold opened pages. The gear for turning over the page used in the reading desk is provided with a bar-shaped holding part and a contact part provided at the end of the holding part and made of a flexible material.
