A safety mounting for fuel tanks, e.g. kerosene tanks, in an aircraft frame has the tanks (54) mounted in recesses (5) in the underside of the wings or in the underside of the fuselage an secured by retracting bolts (7) which enable the pilot to drop the tanks just prior to an emergency landing. The retracting safety bolts can be operated by hydraulics and are fitted along one edge, e.g. the front edge, of the tanks and with fixed studs (6) holding the opposite edge of the tanks.
