<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a long life and industrially advantageous desulfurization agent capable of efficiently eliminating sulfur contents in a hydrocarbon raw material and/or an oxygen-containing hydrocarbon raw material up to the extremely low concentrations, and to provide a method for producing hydrogen for a fuel cell by steam reforming, partially oxidation reforming or thermally reforming the hydrocarbon raw material and/or the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon raw material desulfurized by using this desulfurization agent. <P>SOLUTION: The desulfurization agent is the one for eliminating sulfur compounds in the hydrocarbon raw material and/or the oxygen-containing hydrocarbon raw material, and contains nickel, and the bulk density of which is 1 g/cm<SP>3</SP>or more.
