<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a trachea dilator where a plurality of dilators are not required and technique is simple, where complication such as injury to trachea posterior wall due to excessive insertion is prevented, and whose operability is improved. <P>SOLUTION: After indwelling a guide wire 10 in a trachea 12, the trachea dilator 1 is inserted along the guide wire 10 to dilate the trachea 12 to a desired diameter. Thereafter, the trachea dilator 1 is pulled off, and a tracheostomy tube is indwelled. The trachea dilator 1 used for a process like this is provided with: a diameter enlargement part 2 whose diameter is gradually enlarged toward the side of a base part and which is inserted to the trachea 12 to enlarge the trachea 12 to the desired diameter; and a stoppage part 4 for preventing this diameter enlargement part 2 from excessively entering the tracheae 12. In this case, the stoppage part 4 can form a level difference in the state of an enlarged projection or a guard-shaped level difference.
