PREFORM FOR PLASTIC OPTICAL MEMBER, ITS MANUFACTURING METHOD AND PLASTIC OPTICAL FIBER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the production of air bubbles in plastic optical fiber preform. SOLUTION: A core solution is prepared from methyl methacrylate (MMA) and desirable additives in order to form a core part of the preform. Processing for making a dissolved oxygen amount of the core solution 2.8 times or less of the saturated dissolved oxygen amount of pure water at the same temperature is performed as follow; (1) ultrasonic wave having an energy of≥1.8 kW s per 1 cm3of the core solution is applied to the core solution for 10 min. or (2) the core solution is evacuated for 5 min. or more under the reduced pressure of 0.005 MPa to 0.03 MPa. By performing either one of the processing (1) or (2), the dissolved oxygen in the core solution causing air bubble production in the preform can be reduced. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
