PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superconducting cable which can control temperature rise of a superconductive layer in an accident such as a short circuit and can reduce an AC power loss in normal current carrying. SOLUTION: The superconducting cable comprises a former 2, a superconductor layer 3 formed on the periphery of the former 2, an electrical insulation layer 4 formed on the superconductor layer 3, a shield layer 6 formed on the insulation layer 4, and a normal conduction metal layer 5 formed between the insulation layer 4 and the shield layer 6. Since the normal conduction metal layer 5 being inside the shield layer 6 has an inductance larger than the shield layer 6, the shield layer 6 carries the current in the normal current energization.
