PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a nitrogen dioxide detecting material capable of maintaining strength over a long period even when using a cellulose material as a carrier. SOLUTION: At least one of N-1-naphthyl ethylene diamine dihydrochlide, N,N-dimethyl-1-naphthyl amine, and 1-naphthyl amine is developed on the carrier to detect discoloration by diazotization. An acid for generating a diazo dye required in the prior art is not required since the discoloration by diazotization is detected directly by this manner, the inexpensive cellulose is used thereby as the carrier without being deteriorated by the acid, and nitrogen dioxide is measured with high reliability even when applied for an autotitrator.
