PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine capable of further improving fuel consumption, and capable of reducing a generation quantity of NOx, by expanding a compression ignition operation area, by enabling compression ignition operation by controlling the self-ignition timing, in a sudden transitional operation state. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine can perform the compression ignition operation, with an ignition timing control means for controlling the self-ignition timing of fuel on the basis of a control value of a control parameter TGc derived from an operation state. The internal combustion engine has a transitional operation detecting means for detecting the sudden transitional operation state of the internal combustion engine, a transitional operation control value deriving means for deriving a transitional operation control valve TGp of the control parameter TGc from a transitional operation state, and a control value changing means for changing the control parameter TGc to the transitional operation control value TGp derived by the transitional operation control value deriving means, when the transitional operation detecting means detects the transitional operation state.
