PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for outdoor monitoring which detects a small animal, etc. to prevent a false report from occurring frequently. SOLUTION: The apparatus for outdoor monitoring includes a double fence 1. An ITV camera 2 (2-1, 2-2) are provided at both ends of a passage L in the double fence 1. The passage L in the double fence 1 is illuminated with a mercury lamp 3 (3-1, 3-2) at night. The ITV camera 2 captures a photographed image for a predetermined period, calculates the absolute value of a difference of density values of respective pixels of the present image and an image before one period, compares the absolute value with a threshold, and considers a set of the pixels in which the absolute value of the difference is the threshold or more, as an invading object. The area of the invaded object is converted into an area when it is assumed that the area of the invaded object is disposed at a reference position based on the direction of a depthwise direction in the image of this invaded object.
