In a method of mounting a lining in an ingot mould or container for molten metal the lining is inserted in the mould or container and is held in position by a rod, one end of which is moved into engagement with a selected one of a series of vertical locations in the lining and the other end of which engages the top of the mould or container. The vertical locating means which is incorporated in the lining may be in the form of a tubular member 2 with spaced inserts 5 within, which facilitate the engagement of one hooked end 6a of a rod 6. Pivoting the rod end 7 about the axis of the tube permits the engagement or disengagement of the hook to facilitate the supporting of the lining in the desired vertical position. The other end 6b of the rod 6 engages the top 10 of the ingot mould A, and may be clamped by means 16 to retain the lining in position against the inside wall of the mould. An alternative type of locating means in the lining is in the form of a laddertype frame 39 the various rungs 36 of which may be selectively engaged to position the mould lining at the required height, the lining being clamped against the mould wall by bending the end 37 of the rod 35 downwardly against the outside of the mould or container. |
