PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite material composed of a reinforcing fiber and a thermoplastic resin, in which the state of impregnation of the thermoplastic resin is good, of which the dynamic properties are excellent and which is suitable for a molding material wherein the reinforcing fiber is impregnated with the thermoplastic resin having high melt viscosity, in particular. SOLUTION: The composite material suitable for a molding material is a tape- or sheet-shaped product and is composed of a reinforcing fiber such as a glass fiber and a thermoplastic resin such as a polyarylene sulfide having≥70 Pa×s of viscosity at near 1,000 sec<SP>-1</SP>shear rate in accordance with JIS K 7199. Wherein the ratio of a reinforcing fiber monofilament number in a width direction to that in a depth direction at an optional section in a normal direction to a reinforcing fiber direction, is≤125.
