PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the strength and durability of a roller assembly, to heighten the strength and durability as a drive shaft for an automobile by lowering the rotational resistance, and to further reduce an inductive thrust and sliding resistance. SOLUTION: This tripod type constant velocity universal joint includes: an outer joint member 10 provided with three track grooves 12 having a roller guide surface 14 arranged face to face in the circumferential direction; a tripod member 20 having three trunnion journal 22 projected in the radial direction; rollers 34 inserted in the track grooves 12; and a ring 32 externally fitted to the trunnion journal 22 to support the rollers 34 to freely rotate, wherein the rollers 34 can be moved in the axial direction of the outer joint member 10 along the roller guide surface 14, and balls 36 are interposed in a four-point contact state between the ring 32 and the roller 34.
