PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auto-tensioner for suppressing the vibration (string vibration), slip, resulting noises and durability degradation of a transmission belt due to the fluctuation of torque resulting from the fluctuation of rotation of an engine, and to provide a multi-shaft drive mechanism for the transmission belt using the same. SOLUTION: The auto-tensioner 23 for imparting tension to the transmission belt 11 comprises a fixed member 27, a movable member 30 in an armed structure movably supported by the fixed member 27, a pulley 28 provided at the armed front end of the movable member 30 for engaging with the transmission belt 11, and a pushing means 35 using an elastic member 38 laid between an adjusting member 36 and a pushing material 37 for sliding the pushing material 37 only in the direction of separating from the front end of the adjusting member 36 to move the movable member 30 in such a manner that its return to the opposite direction is restricted.
