<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for controlling doctor pressure, which enable the more accurate and quantitative control of the doctor pressure, and which can provide high-quality gravure printed matter. <P>SOLUTION: This doctor pressure control apparatus comprises: a dot photographing camera 6 for photographing a dot of printed matter; a dot image storage processor 7 for measuring and storing/processing an area ratio of the photographed dot; an air pressure converter 8 for deriving the amount of the regulation of the pressure of a doctor 4 so that the area ratio of the dot can reach a target value; and an air pressure regulator 9 for regulating the doctor pressure in accordance with the amount of the regulation.
