<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eletromagnetically held brake having less remaining magnetism for generating required braking force. <P>SOLUTION: The electromagnetically held brake comprises a switchable electromagnet 4 for holding a movable sheet 6 at a predetermined position. Besides, the brake has a second fixed sheet 5 arranged substantially parallel to the movable sheet 6.
