PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of obtaining image data of high image quality, without damaging the photographed frame image. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus includes a carrying means for carrying photographic films in the length direction; a light irradiation means for irradiating the carried photographic films with light; an imaging means which is located at a side opposite to the light irradiation means across the carried photographic film and applies main scanning to the photographic films in the width direction; and a discrimination means for discriminating whether a prescribed edge of the photographic film is located within a prescribed scanning range of the imaging means, on the basis of a luminous quantity received within the prescribed scanning range.
