PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microbial producing method for much reducing mixed presence of monomer units other than the objective ones and for producing a polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) at a high yield, to provide a new PHA synthesized by the method, and to provide a bacterial strain suitable therefor. SOLUTION: The method for producing PHA comprises a step for cultivating, in a medium containing an alkanoate represented by formula (22) and sugars, a microorganism producing a PHA containing monomer unit represented by formula (23) by utilizing the alkanoate, and a new suitable strain (Pseudomonas, cicori YH2 and H45; P. putida P91; P. jesseni P161) is provided.
