PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to automatically adjust an optical system to a correct optimum point independently of the positional deviation of a reproduction signal detector and the residual aberration of the optical system in a rewritable optical device and an optical information recording/reproducing device.

SOLUTION: A spherical aberration and a focus depth are roughly adjusted simultaneously by using tracking error signal amplitude (PP amplitude), and are finely adjusted by using reproduction signal amplitude (RF amplitude). In this way, since the spherical aberration and the focus depth are adjusted to the optimum point of correct spherical aberration, the reliability of the reproduced signal can be enhanced.
