PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing device decreasing the rate of data causing trouble to focusing point detection by changing a focus area according to the state of a subject. SOLUTION: Provided are a specific frequency detecting circuit 13 which extracts a specific frequency component signal from a digital signal obtained by imaging the subject through a focusing lens, a focus area specifying circuit 14 which generates a focus area by detecting the position where a signal larger than a specified level is present in the output signal of the specific frequency detecting circuit 13, and a driving circuit 16 which adds the specific frequency component signal output in the focus area generated by the focus area specifying circuit 14 and drives the focusing lens so that the addition value becomes maximum.
