PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of an excavating machine body by adopting a structure bringing no trouble in excavating works even if a leader mast is made short as a means for reducing the weight of the machine body and by solving the problem of excavating reaction brought when the total equipment weight is reduced. SOLUTION: In an excavating machine in which a leader mast 3 is erected in a self-traveling machine body 1, and an excavation rod 42 is hangingly attached to a vertically moving rotary driving section 41, a machine body retention mechanism 2 having a support leg 222 biting the ground is attached to the self-traveling machine body, a rotary section having a through attaching hole for the excavating rod in the rotary driving part 41 of the advancing mechanism 4 is provided and the rotary driving part is suspended in the position deviated from the upper part above the excavation rod through attaching hole.
