PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound with excellent plant disease-controlling ability concerning a biphenyl compound and use thereof. SOLUTION: The biphenyl compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a 1-3C alkyl group, a 1-3C haloalkyl group or a 1-3C alkoxy group; R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or 1-3C alkyl group; or R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>join together to be a trimethylene group, a tetramethylene group or a CH=CH-CH=CH group; and R<SP>3</SP>is a 1-3C alkyl group or a 3-4C alkyl group) has excellent plant disease-controlling ability.
