摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a photocatalyst particle which exhibits high photocatalytic activity under a light source emitting light having a wavelength of 400 nm or longer and excellent photocatalytic performance under a light source emitting light having a wavelength of 400 nm or shorter, and to provide practical means for facilitating application of the photocatalyst to various substrate materials and articles. SOLUTION: Titanium oxide sol containing a transition metal compound is manufactured, wherein the content of a precipitated component is <10 mass% of the total solid content of the sol, transmittance at a wavelength of 550 nm, as measured by use of a cell having an optical path length of 2 mm is≥50% when the solvent is water and a solid content is 1 mass%. A thin film is easily formed on the surface of a substrate without damaging the designability of the substrate on which a photocatalyst is applied by obtaining particles having excellent photocatalytic activity in a sol state where the particles are excellently dispersed.
