PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production method and a production apparatus for a sealing material by which defoaming is efficiently carried out even in the case a small volume of the sealing material with a high viscosity is defoamed. SOLUTION: The production method for the seal material involves first defoaming treatment by setting the sealing material 10 inserted between a pair of substrates for bonding them in a container 13 and stirring the material and decreasing the pressure and second defoaming treatment carried out thereafter by transferring the sealing material 10 to a long cylindrical intermediate container and rotating the intermediate container at a pressure further decreased than the pressure in the first defoaming treatment.
