The generator apparatus has a magnetic body (28) moveably mounted in a tubular housing. The housing comprises a ring (10) in the center of which is mounted a radial arm (22). A leaf spring (16) for storing energy engages with the end of the radial arm. The radially outer end of the arm carries a magnetic element (26) which repels the magnet body.
