<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backpack low cost, light, and fitted with a float, furnished with an underwater breathing device to be mounted simply as a countermeasure for such an occurrence that the user is sucked down by a tidal wave. <P>SOLUTION: An air container or an oxygen container is connected with inside a helmet through a tube. The helmet part covered with a cloth except its window is coupled with a body part equipped with the containers through hook and loop fasteners 6, 14, 16, and the tube is put in the position 15 so that a shape of a backpack is generated. In case of emergency, the breathing is secured through simple procedures such as pulling up a grip, putting the helmet on, and turning a valve. Owing to a plate 5 made of rubber etc., there is no risk of gas leakage even if the arrangement is turned upside down. The containers are made of aluminum and contain approximately two litters and are embodied in a lightweight and low-cost construction. After attaining the water surface, the helmet is put off and a container fixing belt 11 is untied, and it is possible to remove the containers and the tube.
