PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for adsorbing selenium and chromium which can adsorb selenium and chromium contained in an object to be treated, such as polluted water and polluted soil, efficiently at a low cost. SOLUTION: The adsorption method is characterized in that the pH of the polluted water or the polluted soil containing selenium or chromium is adjusted to 2-6 and then schwertmannite having a composition formula of Fe<SB>8</SB>O<SB>8</SB>(OH)<SB>8-2x</SB>(SO<SB>4</SB>)<SB>x</SB>(1≤x≤1.75) is added to the polluted water or the polluted soil to adsorb the selenium or the chromium in the polluted water or the polluted soil by means of the schwertmannite.
