PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish a simple design without paying attention to possible wear of mechanical parts necessary for the game operation. SOLUTION: A game button projection/recognition unit 300 carries out the cross correlation computation of the image patterns detected by two CCD sensors (optical detection means 21 and 22) which are arranged on a plane orthogonal to the optical axis of a built-in projection part (projection means 20) with a specified displacement difference. Then, the position at which the luminance amplitude is maximized is detected and when the position coincides with the distance to the operation surface, the touch of the player on the operation surface is detected and the pattern matching is made between the image patterns and the image pattern a part of which is shielded by the finger of the player to recognize which of the game buttons is operated. Thus, the operations by the players of the operation buttons projected are recognized (optical recognition means 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 31). COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
