METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF COPOLYMERS

Disclosed is a method for producing copolymers. Said method is characterized in that (A) at least one ethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride which is derived from at least one dicarboxylic acid comprising 4 to 8 C atoms, (B) at least one vinyl aromatic compound, and (C) optionally, at least one ethylenically unsaturated comonomer that is different from (A) and comprises at least one heteroatom, are copolymerized, (D) are reacted with at least one compound of general formula (Ia) or (Ib), and are hydrolyzed by means of water or aqueous alkaline solution, radical initiators being added once again following hydrolysis. The variables in formulas (Ia) and (Ib) are defined as follows: A<1> identically or differently represents C2-C20 alkylene, R<1> represents linear or branched C1-C30 alkyl, and n represents an integer between 1 and 200.
