The mechanism (10) to retract a sliding drawer automatically has a piston rod (36) with an end piece (38) at the free end, forming a head (40) of a larger diameter, as a connection for the pawl (14). The pawl has an open holder (42) for the piston head, so that the head in the locked setting can pass freely through the open mouth (42a) of the holder. When the pawl is unlocked and in the swung setting, the piston head is still gripped by a part of the holder at least partially.
