Carbon nanotubes have been expensive since their production volumes have been limited. The present invention aims to produce carbon nanotubes at high rate and low cost. Disclosed is a method for producing carbon nanotubes wherein carbon nanotubes are produced by irradiating a mixed liquid in a container including an organic solvent and an organic metal complex with ultrasonic waves so as to form air bubbles while irradiating the mixed liquid with electromagnetic waves using an electromagnetic wave irradiating means so as to generate a high-energy plasma in the mixed liquid.
