PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a defect inspection method and a defect inspection apparatus of foaming sheets, that can surely measure a nest comprising continuous bubbles that are the defects of the foaming sheets, can determine the size and number of nests for rapidly reflecting the manufacturing conditions, and can surely conduct quality management. SOLUTION: In the method for inspecting faults in the foaming sheets, the end face of the trimmed foaming sheets is continuously photographed by a CCD camera and is subjected to on-line image processing for measuring the nest of the end face. Two frames in the thickness direction of an image processing window are set at a position, that is 0.3-0.5 mm from both the ends of the thickness of the foaming sheets; the positional correction processing of the set image processing window is made; further, the image of the obtained processing window is subjected to binarization processing, then to contraction and to expansion processing, and the size and number of nests on the end face are measured.
