PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for performing communication while confirming a contract pertaining to communication automatically. SOLUTION: A user previously makes a contract of providing a help service with a center 20. The center 20 transmits service expiration date information to a mobile information terminal 10. A microcomputer 11 in the terminal 10 receives and stores the service expiration date information thus transmitted. Every time when an ignition switch 19 is turned on, the microcomputer 11 ascertains whether the service expiration date has elapsed or not. If the service expiration date has elapsed, the microcomputer 11 transmits contract update confirmation information and vehicle ID information to the center 20. The center 20 ascertains whether the contract has been updated or not based on the vehicle ID information and transmits up-to-date service expiration date information to the terminal 10 if the contract has been updated.
