PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gate opening and closing mechanism capable of generating torque to rotate the first gate and torque to rotate the second gate installed on the first gate by using one energizing means. SOLUTION: The gate opening and closing mechanism is equipped with the first gate 3 supported rotatably on the first rotary shaft 2 fixed to a stationary member 1, the second gate 5 supported rotatably on the second rotary shaft 4 installed on the first gate 3, a link mechanism 8 composed of a first link member 8a with one end supported rotatably on the third rotary shaft 21 installed on the first gate 3 and a second link member 8b interposed rotatably between a fourth rotary shaft 22 installed on the second gate 8b and the other end of the first link member 8a, and the energizing member 6 interposed between a fifth rotary shaft 9 installed on the stationary member 1 and a sixth rotary shaft 7 installed in the link mechanism 8 for generating an energizing force between the stationary member 1 and the link mechanism 8.
