The burner insert for the burning of liquid fuel in an open fireplace has a basic holder divided by a perforated partition (3) into a fuel supply reservoir closed by a cover (4) and a flame opening for burning fuel. The basic holder consists of a fireproof container (1) made in one piece. A slide (9) penetrating the partition is adjustably installed partially below the cover of the fuel supply reservoir and partially inside the flame opening. An angle piece (13) extending parallel to the partition is fitted on the end of the part of the slide protruding into the flame opening.
