Support spike for large stringed instrument e.g. cello or double bass has hollow perforated upper section and solid lower section

A large stringed instrument e.g. cello or double bass is supported against the floor by a retractable spike which is secured by a thumbscrew. The spike (20) is a two-part (10, 11) telescopic unit with a degree of mechanical mal-fit. The lower tip of the spike is conical. One part of the spike is solid, the other hollow with apertures (14).
