摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selectively and industrially advantageously producing an optically active lactam derivative which is a production intermediate of an optically active pyrrolidine derivative useful for constituting a substituent at the 7-position of a quinolone derivative. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optically active lactam derivative represented by formula (4) involves hydrogenating an unsaturated lactam derivative represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a protective group of an optically active amino group; R<SP>2</SP>is an esterified carboxy group or an amino group which may have a protective group) in the presence of an asymmetric catalyst prepared from a compound represented by the formulas: (MXCl)<SB>2</SB>or MX<SB>2</SB>Y [wherein, M is a group 8 transition metal in the periodic table; X is a 6-10C cyclic olefin having two or more double bonds, or benzene which may be substituted with a 1-6C alkyl group and/or a 1-6C alkoxy group; and Y is a residue of tetrafluoroboric acid, a residue of perchloric acid or a residue of trifluoromethanesulfonic acid] and an optically active bidentate phosphine.
