A linear array sensor (23) extending along the film conveyance direction, stores image data of the film (2) having perforation holes (24) being illuminated by an illumination device (22). A signal processing circuit has a line memory in which image data read out from the linear array sensor is stored. The signal processing circuit determines conveyance speed of the film, based on the image data stored in the line memory. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a film scanner; and (2) a method for regulating conveyance speed of tape-type medium.
