<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pillar air bag device capable of lessening the size of its sack. <P>SOLUTION: The pillar air bag device 10 is structured so that an air bag 36 installed on the front pillar 16 of a vehicle 12 is accommodated in such a way as covered with a pillar outer garnish 52. When a judgement is passed that a colliding body is approaching the front pillar 16, the air bag 36 is inflated and the pillar outer garnish 52 is rotated inward in the vehicle width direction to be located inside in the vehicle width direction of the air bag 36. Accordingly the colliding body abuts to the pillar outer garnish 52, which 52 presses a wide area of the main air bag 46. This enlarges the receiving load of the main air bag 46 for receiving the colliding energy of the colliding body and shortens the absorption stroke of the main air bag 46 for absorbing the colliding energy of the colliding body, and the size of the main air bag 46 can be lessened. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
